5 Fascinating facts about our feet
The Number Facts:
Your foot contains 26 bones (nearly ¼ of all the bones in the body), 33 joints, 19 muscles, 10 tendons, 107 ligaments, 8000 nerve endings, and 250,000 sweat glands capable of producing half a pint of sweat in a single day! All that allows our feet to take on the force of a couple hundred tons over the course of just one day.
An Impressive Fact:
In 2008, 25-year-old Jessica Cox of Tucson, Arizona, who was born without arms, became the first pilot licensed to fly a plane with her feet, according to Fox News.
A Visceral Fact:
Toenails grow about 1 mm per month, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, whereas fingernails grow an average of 0.1 mm a day. It takes at least five to six months to grow an entirely new toenail.
How long can toenails grow? The current record holder for the longest toenails is Louise Hollis of Compton, Calif., who set the record back in 1991. Hollis boasts 6-inch-long nails on each toe, and according to Guinness World Records, she’s been growing her toenails since 1982. Understandably, she wears only open-toed shoes.
A Rumor Fact:
“The larger the shoe (and therefore the foot), the larger the penis size” is a myth. A few different studies have debunked it, most recently in 2003. British researchers measured the penises and feet of 104 men and found no correlation between their sizes — so the saying should really be “big feet, big shoes.”
A Maddening Fact:
Because of high heels Women are four times more likely to have foot problems compared to men.
Can we agree that it is only fair we offer our love and care to our feet just as much as we do to our face, hair, stomachs, and butts? How about we do it for the next 5 minutes together in light and fun way?
